Teenage antihero Nick Twisp moves from the pages of the beloved novel YOUTH IN REVOLT to the screen with this film directed by Miguel Arteta (THE GOOD GIRL). Michael Cera (JUNO) stars as Nick, a teenager who may be wise beyond his years, but that doesn’t stop him from getting in all sorts of trouble.

Just finished watching Youth in Revolt. You should check out their website and learn how to be bad! >:P Anyway, it’s a very entertaining movie. The usual Michael Cera plays as Nick Twisp but he definitely pulled off Francois Dillinger as the cool and awesome alterego of Nick. Sheeni Saunders (Portia Doubleday) is a cutie and I think she’s also a bad-ass but she didn’t show it that much.
I love the animation scenes in the movie! If you’re a multimedia arts/animation student, you’ll surely appreciate the animation. Or even if you’re not an arts student, you will think that the animation is awesome!
Clay-animation (as seen above), pixilation, stop-motion opening credits, pornographic hand drawn animation in the middle of the film and traditional 2D animation in the ending credits were used. Source from this article.
There’s also a link there of the stop-motion/clay animation opening credits and also the information about the great artist who made the animation sequences in the movie, Peter Sluszka.
I read a review and the opening paragraph will sum up what I think about the movie:
Youth in Revolt, which is based on a novel by C.D. Payne, is a teenage rebellion film that comes across like Fight Club for young hipsters. Even though the film sometimes tries a bit too hard to be edgy, Youth in Revolt is a funny, dirty, and stylish comedy.
If you want to see Michael Cera play a different kind of role, see this movie. It’s also a different coming-of-age film. I highly recommend it! :)
I must say, there were some connections...they should add “include artsy...
