Brasas: Latin American Street Food

My friends and I were supposed to go to a resto in Legaspi Village but it was closed. Out of spontaneity and indecisiveness we ended up going to Ortigas and eating at Brasas in Podium right before trying out the most awesome Milk and Cookies we’ve ever tried.

Brasas serves Latin American street food. I think they are the only one who serves this kind of food in the city. Of course we are all familiar with tacos and burritos and that’s the most Latin American street food we have eaten. My friends who already tried Brasas said that we should try this because it’s awesome and they were right!

We were all starving when we arrived there. The others who got there first ordered immediately. Every man for himself! haha! Brasas means hot coal or ember so all of the meat are charcoal grilled.

Chicken Salad (P150)

For starters, you can order salad where you can choose the grilled meat from Beef (P190), Chicken (P150), or Pork (P160). The salad also includes mixed fresh greens, seasonable vegetables and crunchy tortilla strip served with cilantro-lime vinaigrette.

Pastel de Choclo (P210)

Pastel de Choclo is a street food from Chile which is slow cooked beef brisket, carrtos, green peas, and corn mash with a crunchy crust. My friend ordered this and was disappointed not because of the taste but because of the size. She said it was good but not filling.

First Time TikoyFebruary 11, 2013
This was my first time to cook tikoy. Someone gave it to my sister and I just cooked it earlier. I can’t remember the last time I ate tikoy. We devoured it as soon as I finished cooking it. So oily yet so yummy!

Jus & Jerry’s for the First Time: Delivery EditionOctober 19, 2012
Jus and Jerry’s is located at the ground floor of the EGI Condo right beside DLSU. Their specialty is fried chicken with their special sauce of Soy Garlic and Spicy Ginger just like Bonchon and Manang’s. I ordered the 1 pc Drumstick (Soy Garlic) with Rice (P80) and it somewhat reminded me of Bonchon’s chicken. Which is better? I still can’t decide since this was my first time but price-wise, Jus and Jerry’s hands down. They also have milk teas, dumplings, noodle bowls, and many more. Oh, and they just recently served Pork and Chicken Poppers like Tori Box.

Dilingers 1903 Steak Brew

April 29, 2012

This has been seating in my Drafts for the longest time. haha!

I don’t know how we knew about Dilingers 1903 but we always wanted to try this resto bar. And one night, we did try it. This is located at Greenbelt 3 alongside Red Box I think.

image

The place was jam packed when we arrived there around dinner time. We didn’t have any choice but to seat in the smoking area which is weird because as you can see below, the “divider” with the Johnnie Walker sign is open and so is the bar. The place was dimly lit (hence the sucky quality of the pics) and it’s also ideal for intimate conversations if your timing is right. We have an inside joke about these kind of places. We say “pwedeng magdala ng kabit”. haha! The place also holds different events. Check out their Facebook page for their upcoming events.

I ordered the Grilled Pork Chops and my friend ordered the Pepper Steak

image

Grilled Porkchops (P185) - 2 pcs. of perfectly marinated, tender, and juicy pork chops grilled and served with garlic rice and a spicy soy vinegar sauce.

Everything in the menu description was true. It was perfectly marinated and seasoned and it’s really tender that I didn’t have to use the knife to cut the meat into smaller pieces.

image

Pepper Steak (P365) - 200 grams of Australian beef tenderloin crusted with black pepper corns, served with a creamy pepper corn sauce.

image

After eating, we had a round of drinks and we ordered Onion rings. There was nothing really special about it except the Marinara sauce that came with it. We didn’t try out their cocktail drinks and we just stick with beers. I’m sure there’s going to be a next time and we’re going to definitely try out the other things in their menu.

If you’re curious about the place, visit Dilingers 1903 Steak Brew at the 3rd floor of Greenbelt 3. Check out also their Facebook page for more info.

Cucina Andare! (The First Food Truck Market in the Philippines)

December 14, 2012

After a round of drinks in Draft Rockwell, my friends and I went to Cucina Andare, the first food truck market in the Philippines at the Glorietta Open Park. It opened yesterday, December 14, from 4pm - 3am and will be open every Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Chicken Shawarma Plate (P150)

The first thing we tried was the Chicken Shawarma Plate from Shawarma Bros. Actually one of my friend ordered it and we just took a bite. The spices are a little bit overpowering at first and leaves a strong after taste of curry but it’s really good that you want to eat more.

C+W Sandwich (Half - P80)

Waffle Bites (P80)

The next thing we tried were the C+W Sandwich and the Waffle Bites from Chicken+Waffle Haus. The sandwich was really good but I wish that the waffles are made fresh. The Korean vendor who was preparing the dish for me is drunk but he’s the goofy kind of drunk so it’s all good. The sandwich is kinda messy to eat because the coleslaw falls whenever you pick up the sandwich. The Waffle Bites on the other hand was also good but the chocolate syrup was too sweet.

Puto Bumbong, Merry Moo Ice Cream, and a Saksi news segment about Cucina Andare after the cut.
