Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor

I’ve always wanted to try out the restos that I haven’t tried yet in Taft. So one day, I tried Goodles. I’ve been reading good stuff about it. It’s located at the second floor of the University Mall. Check out the Taft map I made to find their location.

I ordered the Basic Meat which is “made from 100% premium ground beef and an extra special blend of cheeses, the towering layers of chunky meat sauce and bechamel make it the ultimate lasagna experience”.

The order came with a piece of garlic bread

The Seven Layer Lasagna Basic Meat

They proved their name alright. The noodles were good. The lasagna was really cheesy and meaty. I just think that it’s too expensive for the small portion of the serving. After finishing my meal, I was bitin. I thought to myself, “That was it?” Though my friend told me that the serving in the Goodles branch she tried were okay. I guess I should try Goodles again.
How about you? Have you tried Goodles already? What’s your choice of pasta or what would you like to try from their menu?
Dats Mix Rice Mixes
April 27, 2012
The Yangchow Rice (P95) is already a meal by itself. Mixed with shrimps, bits of chorizo, green peas, cabbage, and slices of scrambled egg. The Pork BBQ (P95) is one of my favorites to order from Dats Mix. By the way, the Chicken BBQ has also the same price and the same rice mixed just like the Pork BBQ.

Their location can be found at the Locator or the Gastronomic Guide Map to Taft Ave I made and their delivery number is +63917-5709-171.

Another Dats Mix Combo
April 14, 2012
I’m really loving almost all the food items from Dats Mix. I really like the sweetness of the Pork BBQ (P95) specially with the rice. My sister ordered the Longganisa (P95) and I just took one bite from it. It’s the classic breakfast served with garlic rice and salted egg. If you don’t know where Dats Mix is, check out the Taft Map I made.
Dat’s Mix Best Sellers
April 13, 2012
Dat’s Mix is my new found love and these are two of their best sellers: The Bagoong Rice with Topping (P99) and the Sisig Rice with Egg (P99).
The Sisig Rice was a mix of tofu and pork topped with an over easy egg paired with plain rice. It was just an okay meal. I don’t know what’s missing. Maybe it’s just different when you’re sisig is not sizzling.
The Bagoong Rice was just heavenly! Topped with strips of green mango and scrambled eggs, together with tocino-like pork strips paired with bagoong rice. Just perfect combinations of flavors!

Before going to Cello’s Doughnuts that time, I went first to Dats Mix to have lunch. I was actually going around Taft during that week to take pictures and try out the Taft restos that I haven’t tried yet for my school project. That’s why I made this Gastro Guide Map for that same school project.
Anyway, Dats Mix has been in Taft for quite a long time. I gave it a try because I’ve recently read some good stuff about the resto. It was love at first bite.

Interior
The place is just small with simple interior. Just these white, orange, and green chairs with white tables. A few simple pictures hanging on the wall and a picture of their food on the other side. I think it can get really cramped during lunch time or peak hours.

There’s a small “second floor” area where you can eat seating down and just chill. When I went there around late afternoon, someone was sleeping there. I think it was just one of the staff having his siesta.

I ordered their Grilled Liempo (P95) because their Bagoong Rice is not available (but I did order it a few days later. I’ll post it soon). As you can see in the picture above, the liempo is served with half salted egg or itlog na pula, slices of tomatoes and green mangoes. Yum!

Did you know that there used to be Carl’s Jr at Taft? It was located at the Burgundy Tower where the current Cello’s Doughnuts is standing. Many establishments have come and go around Taft but Cello’s is still standing today after it opened back in 2005. Though I think the place needs renovations because that time I went there, I think their aircon is leaking inside the store and flattened boxes were laid down because of the leak.

The counter

When you watch anime and there’s an eating scene, you will here the characters say, “Itadakimasu!” which means “Let’s eat!” in Japanese. (If you want to know how to pronounce it, go here. That link is quite fun too!) Anyway, I’ve been eating a lot of Japanese food since I found out about Jap-OK!
Here are some of the food I recently tried from Jap-OK!

Crabstick Mango Salad (P75)
The Crabstick or Kani Mango Salad is good enough for two people. It’s really refreshing specially on this hot weather were having.

4 pcs Gyoza (P55)
There’s actually nothing special about this Gyoza. It was just okay.

Intro to the Gastronomic Guide to Taft Ave
This is the intro I made for my interactive CD project Gastronomic Guide to Taft Avenue. It’s an interactive map of Taft Avenue (DLSU area) where you can find information about the different restos around Taft. There’s also this “app” I made where the app chooses randomly where you can eat around Taft. It will answer the ultimate question, “Saan tayo kakain? (Where should we eat?)” I’ll post the map soon after I finish revising it.
