Hello Mr. Juanrepublic! Here’s how you do it:
The small thumbnails can be seen in your Tumblr Dashboard when you see a post and there are small thumbnails (duh?) and when you click it, the picture enlarges. This is a tutorial on how to do it.
Usually people use the Insert Image (the icon with the tree) to put pictures inside their post and the result that can be seen in the Tumblr Dashboard would be the images as small gray boxes. Like the example below.

Before we begin, I have a few notes.
Shall we get started then?
1) So first pick the Post Text option from the Post options. In order for the small thumbnails thing to work, you should choose this option.

2) After clicking the Post Text option, you will go to the Add a Text Post page as seen below.

3) Now, let’s start adding the pictures. Click the + Upload Photo located below the Title bar at the right side as seen below.

4) A pop-up will open and you now select a picture that you want to upload. You can just select a picture one at a time. After selecting the picture, double-click it or click the Open button.

5) The page will now upload the selected picture. You will see a loading animation in the right side and also in the lower left side, you will see how many percent of the picture is uploaded. You can only see the percent if you use Google Chrome.

6) Just wait until your picture is loaded in the content area. Repeat steps 3-6 until you uploaded all of your pictures.
If you’re done, just click the Post button.

This is what you will see if you are successful. Instead of small gray boxes, you will see the thumbnails of your pictures.

So, that’s it! If you have any questions, feel free just message me.
Shout out to Sheena so she can win at life! =P I hope this helps! :)
